Competition Drill - Dribblling Skills

These 10 drills are a quick, effective, and competitive way to develop a player’s dribbling skills. Each drill is 30 seconds, and each drill’s goal is to dribble as many times as possible. The player must be in a low defensive like stance as they keep the bounce height of the ball between the knees and waist. Here are the ten ways:
1. Pound (2 balls) – players bounce both balls at the same time as hard as they can straight up and down. The balls must be outside their knees when they are in their low defensive like stance. Every time the balls come up, it counts as 1. GOAL = 100 or more

2. Side to Side – Same direction (2 balls) – players bounce both balls at the same time in the same direction from side to side as they pick their opposite (of the balls) foot off the ground. The balls must move from outside their knees to between their knees in their defensive like stance to count. Every time the ball in their left hand goes outside their left knee, it counts as 1. GOAL = 40 or more
3. Side to Side – Opposite direction (2 balls) – players bounce both balls at the same time in the opposite directions from side to side. The balls must move from outside their knees to between their knees in their defensive like stance to count. Every time the ball in their left hand goes outside the left knee, it counts as 1. GOAL = 40 or more

4. Front to Back – Same Direction (2 balls) – players bounce both balls at the same time in the same direction from front to back as they rock on their toes/heels on the ground in the opposite the direction of the balls. The balls must move from in front of their legs to behind their legs in their defensive like stance to count. Every time the balls come in front of their legs, it counts as 1. GOAL = 40 or more
5. Front to Back – Opposite Direction (2 balls) – players bounce both balls at the same time in the opposite directions from front to back. The balls must move from in front of their legs to behind their legs in their defensive like stance to count. Every time the ball in their left hand comes in front of their left leg, it counts as 1. GOAL = 35 or more

6. Crossover (1 ball) – players bound on their feet side to side while bouncing the ball from. The ball must move from outside their right leg to outside their left leg in their defensive like stance to count. Every time the ball comes back to their left hand from the right hand, it counts as 1. GOAL = 35 or more
7. Between the Legs (1 ball) – players bounce the ball between their legs while moving the legs in a scissor-like motion. The ball must move from outside their right leg to outside their left leg in their low lunge like stance to count. Every time the ball comes back to their left hand from the right hand, it counts as 1. GOAL = 35 or more

8. Behind the Back (1 ball) – players bounce the ball behind their back while picking up their feet in the same direction. The ball must move from outside their right leg to outside their left leg in their defensive like stance to count. Every time the ball comes back to their left hand from the right hand, it counts as 1. GOAL = 35 or more
9. Figure 8 (1 ball) – players bounce the ball in a figure 8 motion around their legs. The ball must move around their right leg then around their left leg in their defensive like stance to count. Every time the ball comes back to their left hand from the right hand, it counts as 1.   GOAL = 20 or more

10. Figure 8 – Opposite Direction (1 ball) – players bounce the ball in a figure 8 motion around their legs in opposite direction from the way above. The ball must move around their right leg then around their left leg in their defensive like stance to count. Every time the ball comes back to their left hand from the right hand, it counts as 1. GOAL = 20 or more
